I finally got to see Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s was in
IMAX no less. Okay before you threaten to revoke my movie geek card I have seen
the movie before. I have the Indiana Jones trilogy on DVD and will have the
Indiana Jones complete set on Blu Ray as soon as it releases (and yes I enjoyed
Crystal Skull).
So what’s the big deal in watching Raiders of the Lost Ark for
the umpteenth time you ask? The answer is rather simple actually. I never got
to see it in theaters. I was 2 years old when it originally released. Even if I
was taken to see it I was nowhere near old enough to remember it.
Nothing
matches the experience of watching a movie in theaters on a big screen. The
experience is just larger than life. I do have a 52” inch television with an
11-speaker surround sound setup for my home theater system. No matter how
awesome it looks and sounds it still doesn’t match the enjoyment I get from
sitting in front of a screen that can be as large as 70 feet by 90 feet.
I
realize that thanks to these re-releases I’m able to see some of my childhood
favorites in their original format. I can definitely say that Raiders of the
Lost Ark is meant to be on a big screen. There are a lot of classics getting
the re-release treatment due to their anniversary coming up or the new trend 3D
conversions (which I thoroughly enjoy).
Thanks to this I was able to see
Ghostbusters and the Lion King in its native format. I missed out on seeing
Back to the Future but I’m sure I’ll get another shot in a couple of years or
maybe even a 3D re-release (I can only hope). Either way it goes I love reliving
my childhood watching these movies. If you have or haven’t already checked out my
post on Summer Movie Magic you should. Come reminisce with me and share your
memories (part 2 is on the way).
